Bright Minds and Fresh Eyes on County Projects

Missouri S&T in Rolla, Mo is a premier university, known for producing the best of the best in engineering, science and technology.  Their mission is to “Solve for Tomorrow” and they are turning out visionaries and through leaders for the next generation.

Washington County IDA is pleased to announce that a class of about 50 junior and senior engineering students will be working on feasibility studies, right here in Washington County, as part of their Project Management Class curriculum.  Partnering with Dr. Joan Shuman, the IDA will welcome the students this semester to explore the community and propose solutions for several exciting projects.

Projects were proposed in Rolla on January 26, 2023 and include site selection for a new hotel, hotel specifications, and an EV charging station downtown.  The Washington County Airport will work with the students on creating a plan for ramp and aircraft parking improvements.  At the City Park, students will study the possibilities for a bicycle pump track, bicycle paths, new restroom facilities and renovation ideas for the main baseball field dugouts.  The Sayers Senior Center will also get some attention, with projects geared toward façade renovation and a potential drive-through for meal pick up.

Community volunteer leaders are serving as project champions to inform and facilitate in person visits by the students to our city.

On April 18, 2023 everyone is invited to a Community Projects Expo to view the project studies, meet the students and dream with us!

Our future is bright!
