The Board of Directors for the Washington County Industrial Development Authority met on January 6, 2025. The board had a variety of topics and projects to discuss, but a majority of the meeting was spent on budgeting, accounting decisions, and important upcoming events.

Consulting Director Rowe announced appropriate steps had been taken to transfer the IDA operating account to accrue a higher interest rate. Director Rowe also presented the final draft of the 2026 economic development fund (EDF) budget for approval and submission to the Washington County Commission.  With cuts made to the operating budget and overall money dedicated to county improvements, the IDA will remain sustainable, using 2026 to build accounts through interest accruement and lease payments from prior investments. The board agreed that more time is needed to research funding sources.  Rowe agreed to report back to the board at the March or April meeting with a proposal of ideas for additional funding and investments.

Important announcements were also made for upcoming events and initiatives.  The 3rd annual “Let’s Grow” event will be summit style on March 26, 2026 at the event space at the Caring Hearts Family Resource Center from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. The event is in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and business, and county leaders will be invited to attend.  The agenda will include a presentation on the results of the business survey, an opportunity to participate in strategic thinking, a presentation by Director Rowe, and the launch of a new initiative by the IDA called “Industries & Education.” Rowe informed the board, the business survey will run from late January through March 1.  Great efforts are being made to compile a master business and community email and mailing list with help from Kelly Brueggan, Chamber Board President.

Director Rowe updated the board on various tasks from the previous month before moving into executive session.
