The Washington County Industrial Development Authority (WCIDA) successfully hosted the “Let’s Grow” local economic development event on March 26, 2024 at The Venue in downtown Potosi, Missouri. With a strong turnout of nearly 80 attendees from Washington County and surrounding areas, the event proved to be a significant platform for fostering growth and understanding rural economies.

Keynote speaker Dr. Sean Siebert, an esteemed author and expert on rural economies, delivered an enlightening presentation titled “Understanding Rural Economies.” Dr. Siebert’s insights provided attendees with valuable perspectives on the unique challenges and opportunities present in entrepreneurship and rural economic development, setting a thoughtful tone for the event.

The program also featured a panel who shared experiences and strategies for driving economic growth in rural communities. Bonnie Prigge, Executive Director of MRPC served as a panelist along with Dr. Sean Siebert and Jaclyn Rowe, Consulting Director of WCIDA. Attendees had the opportunity to hear varying ideas from the panelist through moderation by Janey Radford, Small Business Specialist at Belgrade State Bank.

The event concluded with a presentation titled “Leveraging the IDA” by Consulting Director Jaclyn Rowe of the Washington County Industrial Development Authority. Rowe’s presentation highlighted the crucial role of the WCIDA in supporting local businesses, attracting investment, and fostering economic vitality in Washington County through strategic pillars of creation, growth and retention.

“We are thrilled with the success of the ‘Let’s Grow’ event and the enthusiastic participation from our community,” said Rowe. “Events like these are essential for bringing together stakeholders, sharing knowledge, and catalyzing economic progress in our county. I was encouraged by the attendance of so many of our local officials, business owners, community and healthcare leaders, pastors, directors of regional economic development organizations, and state legislators including Representatives Mike McGirl and Mike Henderson.

The Washington County Industrial Development Authority Board of Directors extends its gratitude to all attendees, speakers, and sponsors for their contributions to making the event a resounding success. Plans are already underway for future initiatives aimed at furthering economic growth and prosperity in Washington County.
