The Board of Directors for the Washington County Industrial Development Authority met on August 6, 2024. The board had a variety of topics and projects to discuss, but the primary focus of the meeting was on the upcoming groundbreaking in the Industrial Park for Purcell Tire & Rubber Company.  Consulting Director, Jaclyn Rowe shared plans for the event and discussed impending needs for grounds maintenance in preparation for an expected attendance of 100 guests.

The Board also hosted a virtual meeting with ECOSTRAT to learn more about the potential for a Bioeconomy Development Opportunity Zone rating.  After multiple questions, the board decided to table the conversation and pursue references from other communities before moving forward.  If the Board determines to take further action, a grant will be pursued to cover the majority of the proposed cost of around $86,000.  A BDO Zone rating would initiate international marketing for business attraction in the bioeconomy space, based on regional feedstock.

Consulting Director, Rowe, provided an update on various tasks and requests for the organization’s audit for fiscal year 2023.  The final audit report is anticipated for mid-September with no issues to address.

Per the July meeting, Director Rowe explained plans to roll out the newly approved Economic Development Policy with presentations scheduled around the county and with a newly formed Business Advisory Committee.  The policy was also published on the IDA website.
