Washington County Industrial Development Authority, Health Coalition, and Re-Entry Council to Host Business Development Workshop on Becoming a Recovery-Friendly Workplace
The Washington County Industrial Development Authority (WCIDA), Washington County Health Coalition (WCHC), and Re-Entry Council are excited to announce a Business Development Workshop aimed at helping local businesses become Recovery-Friendly Workplaces. The event will take place on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at The Venue 230, located at 230 E. High Street in downtown Potosi.
This workshop is designed for local business owners, managers, HR professionals, and community leaders who are looking to foster a better workplace environment that supports employees in recovery from substance use disorders or those entering the workforce after incarceration. Attendees will gain insights into how adopting recovery-friendly practices can improve employee retention, enhance workplace safety, strengthen the community and ultimately improve the local economy.
The event will begin with networking and a light breakfast before diving into presentations by guest speakers Sarah Barks and Emily Poncher, Community Field Specialists from the Recovery-Friendly Workplace initiative and MU Extension. Both speakers are experts in guiding businesses through the process of creating supportive environments for individuals in recovery, offering practical strategies to help businesses embrace this approach. The presentation will:
- increase understanding of the Recovery-Friendly Workplace Initiative in Missouri
- describe workforce trends, shortages, and challenges employers face in today’s market
- provide current and future plans for the initiative in Missouri
- discuss how to support businesses and healthcare facilities who are ready to create positive change, eliminate stigma, and support employees in recovery
“We’re proud to partner with the Washington County Health Coalition and Re-Entry Council to offer this important workshop,” said Jaclyn Rowe, Consulting Director of the Washington County IDA. “As businesses in our community continue to grow, it’s vital that we do our best to help our businesses create workplaces that effectively support the wellbeing of employees, and also contribute to the overall health and quality of our local workforce.”
This is a free event, but RSVP is required as space is limited. To register or for more information, please send an email to contact@washingtoncomo.com.
